Freud – a reader and admirer of Nietzsche – similarly presents the human being as a sort of battlefield between the ego, the superego and the id. We must impose the forms of space and time on all we perceive, we must suppose that the world we experience functions according to natural laws, we must regulate our conduct by reference to a self-legislated categorical imperative, and we must postulate the noumenal reality of ourselves, god, and free will—all because a failure to do so would be an implicit confession that the world may be meaningless, and that would be utterly intolerable for us.

Matter, existing as Spherical Wave Motions of Space, determines the size of our Finite Spherical Observable Universe within an Infinite Space. (See Cosmology ) This explains how Matter interacts with all other Matter in the Universe, and thus provides the logical foundations for the fundamental morality of all major Religions, 'Do unto Others as you would have done unto thy Self.' Once we correctly understand the True conception of Self as Universe then we realise that this Morality is Necessarily True (a Tautology) for the Other is a part of the Self.

Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death. (Albert Einstein, 1930) There is nothing divine about morality; it is a purely human affair. (Albert Einstein, 1954) The existence and validity of human rights are not written in the stars. Finally, applied ethics can be a set of rules about moral conduct, like those we teach children when we tell them not to hit others because it hurts them, or laws prohibiting murder or theft.

Hence, I agree wholeheartedly in rejecting 2 in accordance with my understanding of relativism. If Moore had not written Principia Ethica, any philosopher of an empiricist turn of mind who espoused, like Ayer, a verificationist theory of meaning would have been drawn irresistibly to some form of ethical naturalism, whether of a psychological kind which maintains that moral judgements are statements that the speaker, or that people in general, have certain feelings, or of some kind which holds that they are statements about non-psychological empirical fact.

In his On Truth (1624) Edward, Lord Herbert of Cherbury (1582–1648) claimed that all humans have an intuitive grasp of certain basic moral truths that show us how to live. More cynical writers suggest that power elites enforce an ethical code on other people that helps them control those people, but do not apply this code to their own behaviour. Since this is true they must also be responsible for the moral values of their children. Learning how these have changed over time and are commonly perceived is key to understanding humanity itself. For example, the codes I am most familiar with are those of the American Counseling Association (ACA, 2005) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA, 2010), but it’s very probable that any large scale organization dealing with people (i.e., mental health or education) has some sort of standards for its members. When you write “Ethics is innately knowable and requires introspection for greater understanding.”, I agree. The behavior of not asking further questions is usually a useful behavior because it allows a person to mentally accept what appears reasonable, and the person is then free to pursue other activities that may be more important (eating, working, etc.). Ethical decision making does not occur by random chance, such as by throwing dice, but is guided by the orderly application of our ethical principles.
